Patient Information

Do I need a referral?

You can book an appointment with a specialist without a referral in Australia; however, a valid referral is required to access Medicare rebates. Nepean Gastroenterology encourages patients to see their GP initially, as they can often manage concerns directly and will advise if a specialist review is appropriate. Please note that your referral does not need to be addressed to a specific gastroenterologist and can be used to see any gastroenterologist.

Is there parking at the practice?

Nepean Gastroenterology is conveniently located within Nepean Private Hospital. Car parking is available for patients and visitors off Barber Avenue; this parking area has associated fees. There is also a two-hour council-run carpark available opposite the hospital, regular bus services operate along the Main Road, and the nearest train station is situated at Kingswood.

Do I need to prepare for my procedure?

Yes, both gastroscopy and colonoscopy require preparation. Dr Anandabaskaran and Dr Grehan will discuss this at your consultation. A colonoscopy has a special bowel preparation, and it is important that you carry this out as per the instructions given. Please do let our team know if you misplaced the one given to you at the consultation and we can point you to the correct information sheet attached below. A good bowel preparation will allow your doctor to see the bowel lining clearly and ensure a timely, accurate examination. If the bowel preparation is deemed inadequate, your doctor may need to repeat the procedure.
